Your segments are built. Your journeys are mapped. Your subject lines have been A/B tested within an inch of their lives. But who's checking on you?
Black Friday is just around the corner, and if you work in CRM you're ready to be at the centre of it. Campaigns will be firing, segments refreshing. Last-minute 'can we just add one more thing?' requests. Marketers are brilliant at looking after customers, we obsess over their journeys and their experiences, but then we forget to eat lunch...
So here's a 6 week countdown that looks after the person behind the campaigns. One small habit at a time, each one building on the last.
6 weeks to go: get it out of your head
The Black Friday rush starts in your head long before it goes out the door. Write everything down – the to-do list, the half-formed idea, the subject line that came to you in the shower. A brain dump turns 'everything feels urgent' into a list you can actually work through. It's also the perfect moment to lock your send calendar, so October's decisions don't become November's panic.
4 weeks to go: move it or lose it
This is build-and-test time, which usually means long hours staring at test sends. Break them up. A quick stretch between emails or a walk between calls hits the reset button on an overworked brain.
2 weeks to go: teamwork = dreamwork
CRM teams are the engine room of Black Friday. We make sure messages land, flows trigger and experiences feel personal, even at huge volume. That takes clarity, collaboration and creative problem-solving. When you look after yourself and your wider team, you can all think more clearly, spot issues earlier and work better together. Taking a moment to reset isn't time off the work. It's what makes the work good.
Black Friday week: talk to a human, not a dashboard
When the sends are live and the numbers are refreshing every minute, step away and talk to someone. Five minutes with a colleague or friend resets your perspective in a way scrolling never will. Agree who's on call, take proper breaks, and keep a shared channel for issues. Nobody should be firefighting alone.
