Creative of the Month: September

September’s creative has given us plenty worth shouting about. This month’s top five takes us from playful student puns and brilliantly cheeky re-engagement to purpose-led campaigning, a masterclass in brand consistency and some seriously wild artwork.

1.  Itsu

Chosen for: Copy

Meticulous multi-layered punnery in the hero is just the start of Itsu’s copy successes in this email. The tone of voice hits the mark for their young audience, the copy is concise and clear, and the clever use of brackets draws attention to key parts of the message whilst giving the feeling that those parts are just for them. 2.  Boden

Chosen for: Strategy

And now for some re-engagement done well. From the faux-retro design and the subtle USP inclusion, to the tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement of the customer ignoring them and the generous offer – this quirky email stands out, even to the most distant of customers. Blog_2

3. Project Slingshot

Chosen for: Innovation

This multichannel campaign reaches both our screens and outdoors via social, web, tube and billboard ads. Featuring the clever tagline ‘Don’t buy it’ and a lineup of famous faces – many of which are comedians to bring a snipey edge to the tone – it’s an anti-factory farming message that’s cleverly delivered and hard to ignore.

4.   Patagonia

Chosen for: Copy + Strategy

‘Built for years, not seasons.’ Patagonia sums up its whole proposition in five words, before backing it up with the proof. From durability and its Ironclad Guarantee to its repair service, every element reinforces the same message: buy well and make it last. Simple, consistent and unmistakably Patagonia. Blog_4

5.  Secret Lair

Chosen for: Design

Normal has well and truly left the building. Secret Lair lets the product artwork do the talking in this email for its A Perfectly Normal Superdrop, giving the wildly different styles of artists including Dan Hipp, Ian Miller and Gene Luen Yang plenty of room to shine. The result is bold, brilliantly chaotic and completely in keeping with the subject line.
